Objective: Small systems need to deliver safe drinking water to their consumers and to do it in a cost-effective manner. The objective of this video series is to provide operators and managers with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment essential to safely operate and maintain their facilities as well as manage their facilities using appropriate financial strategies.
Scope: This video series provides needed training for various operators and managers of small public water systems. Operators have the responsibility of ensuring that safe and pleasant drinking water is delivered to everyone’s tap. The information provided in these videos will help operators do their jobs with greater knowledge and efficiency. Managers must see that maintenance, recordkeeping, reporting, public complaints, and budgeting are properly handled. The information provided in these videos will increase background knowledge regarding the system and provide specific training regarding administrative tasks. Owners and governing bodies must understand the needs and provide operators and managers withthe resources to perform their jobs.

ABOUT VIDEO TRAINING SERIES COURSES: The study material is contained in seven videos. Each video/reading lesson is arranged for you to watch a video, read a short section, write the answers to the questions at the end of the section, and check your answers against suggested answers. At the end of each chapter, you must take an online chapter exam.. You will be able to see your score online. You must receive a passing grade of 70% to obtain a certificate. There is no final exam for this home study course. After you have completed and passed all chapter exams with a minimum of 70%, Illinois Section AWWA will issue a certificate of completion.
Upon completion of this Illinois Section AWWA course, IEPA will award aspiring operators:
| Class A & B Operator License.
||6 month credit towards the 3 year requirement (can earn up to 12 months total by taking additional qualifying courses.); must hold a minimum of 2 years hands-on experience to take IEPA exam
Class C Operator License
|6 month credit towards the 1 year requirement; must be matched with 6 months hands-on training
|Class D Operator License
|| 3 months credit towards the 6 month requirement; must be matched with 3 months of hands-on training
