#2081 - Breakpoint Chlorination...IEPA#5457
Title: Breakpoint Chlorination...Do you really have a free chlorine residual? IEPA#5457
Delivered on: 07/17/12
RTC Hour: 1.00 Total Hours: 1.00
Presented By: Bob Spon, Spon Water Consulting, LLC
SUMMARY: Combined chloramine
residuals often mask themselves as false-positive ‘phantom’ free
chlorine residuals, while using the DPD free chlorine reagents and test
method. A detailed breakpoint chlorine diagram will be used during this
session to help visualize the pros and cons between using combined
chloramine residuals or free chlorine disinfection methods.
Chloramination treatment, disinfection byproduct formation,
nitrification, and controlling chlorine taste/odor will be addressed in
this session. Attendees will receive formulas and tools, to calculate
chlorine demand, optimize chlorine dosage rate, and limit byproduct
formation. Bring a copy of your raw/finished water quality and chlorine
dosage/residual reports to discover if you have phantom false-positive
chlorine residuals and how to avoid them and then make treatment changes
to improve water quality and consumer confidence..
