Scope:  This course is designed to train operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater collection systems, emphasizing safe practices and procedures. Information is presented on the importance and responsibilities of a collection system operator, the need for collection system O&M, and the components and typical layouts of collection systems. Operators learn safety procedures for construction, inspection and testing of sewers, inspection of manholes, and underground construction and repair. Detailed instructions are included for using closed-circuit television, clearing stoppages, cleaning sewers, and controlling roots, grease, odors, and corrosion in collection systems. This course focuses on the knowledge and skills operators need to identify actual collection system problems and select appropriate methods to solve them. Operators also learn to solve arithmetic problems relating to the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems.

Operator License Type   IEPA Credit Description for this Course Completion:
 Class 1
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 8 year requirement (can earn up to 24 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must have a minimum of 4 years hands-on experience to take IEPA exam
 Class 2
 Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 6 year requirement (can earn up to 12 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must hold a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience to take IEPA exam
 Class 3
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 3 year requirement (can earn up to 6 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must be matched with 18 months hands-on experience
 Class 4
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 1 year requirement (can earn up to 6 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must be matched with 3 months of hands-on experience

ABOUT HOME-STUDY COURSES:Each lesson is arranged for you to read a short section, write the answers to the questions at the end of the section, check your answers against suggested answers. At the end of each chapter, you must submit your answers to Illinois Section AWWA for grading. You may fax, email, or mail your answers. Answer sheets will not be returned.    Once you have completed all exams,  your PDH hours will be added to your record.
