Scope:  This course focuses on three areas: (1) lift stations, (2) sewer rehabilitation, and (3) administration of a collection system agency. Detailed information is provided on the components and practical operation of lift stations. Operators learn to operate and maintain a variety of types of motors, supervisory controls, pumps, valves, and other equipment. They will also learn to examine the condition of a sewer system, set up a sewer rehabilitation program, and safely use various methods to replace or repair damaged sewers. This course also teaches operators critical aspects of effectively administering a wastewater collection agency or department. Administrative topics include overall organization of the agency as well as employment, training and compensation of personnel, selection and acquisition of equipment and facilities, system mapping, management information systems, report writing, and public relations. Operators learn to organize and administer all facets of a collection system agency.

Operator License Type   IEPA Credit Description for this Course Completion:
 Class 1
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 8 year requirement (can earn up to 24 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must have a minimum of 4 years hands-on experience to take IEPA exam
 Class 2
 Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 6 year requirement (can earn up to 12 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must hold a minimum of 3 years hands-on experience to take IEPA exam
 Class 3
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 3 year requirement (can earn up to 6 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must be matched with 18 months hands-on experience
 Class 4
Completion of this course will earn you 3 months credit towards the 1 year requirement (can earn up to 6 months total by taking additional qualifying courses); must be matched with 3 months of hands-on experience

ABOUT HOME-STUDY COURSES: Each lesson is arranged for you to read a short section, write the answers to the questions at the end of the section, check your answers against suggested answers. At the end of each chapter, you must submit your answers to Illinois Section AWWA for grading. You may fax, email, or mail your answers. Answer sheets will not be returned.    Once you have completed all exams,  your PDH hours will be added to your record.
