This short course will address the tools, techniques, and tactics of comprehensive energy management. This course will cover energy costs, financial and technical issues, conservation measures, and the implementation of renewable energy technologies within a public utility. It will start by presenting the issues in an overview fashion to guide decision-makers on their energy costs, demands, and resources. The second session will address the demand side and will cover conservation measures and process modifications, including presentation of actual examples where minor capital investments can offer significant annual operations savings. The third session will outline the range of available renewable technologies and their technical and financial issues. Finally, the last session presents a ranging set of energy strategy approaches for utilities that will vary depending on their technical and policy interests and capability.
